Studies

Carlos Bertomeu holds a degree in economics from the University of Valencia, an MBA from the IE Business School, and was the top student in his PhD program. He started his professional career at the IE Business School as a finance professor and strategic consultant. Later he was director of the MBA and Executive MBA programs. In 1994, he joined the Nefinsa Group as director of Investments and Strategic Development. He has been an advisor to Vueling, and is currently an advisor to Exceltur and vice-president of the European Association of Regional Airlines (ERA).

Professional Career

He is also a member and advisor of Equipo IVI and a member of the Governing Board of the Polytechnic University of Valencia. He has also been academic director of the Business Culture Chair of the University of Valencia’s University-Business Foundation. He has led the Spanish regional airline Air Nostrum since 1999, and is now the company’s executive president and main shareholder. With almost 74,000 flights and more than 4 million passengers a year, Air Nostrum is the leading regional aviation company in Spain and one of the largest European airlines in its class. It operates for the Iberia Group under the Iberia Regional Air Nostrum brand and is a member of the Oneworld alliance. It has a turnover of more than €425 million a year and more than 1,400 employees. Its management, quality and standing have earned it multiple awards around the world, such as the Flight International Transport Award and the ATW Regional Airline of the Year Award. It is also the only European regional airline that has won the Airline of the Year award from the ERA (European Regional Airline Association) seven times - five in the Gold category and two in the Bronze category.
